American Studies is the study of various aspects of American history, society (such as racial, ethnic, and religious groups, as well as women) and culture (including literature, film and the arts) from a number of perspectives. The field, thus, is characterized by a multiplicity of both topics and methodological approaches.

American Studies majors, therefore, both delve into the study of various US-related topics of interest to them, and acquire analytical models which they can apply in examining other cultures and societies (e.g. those of Hungary).
