The Cultural History of the US Border

Prof Ellen Litwicki, Fulbright Prosessor for the Department of American Studies, delivered a lecture on the cultural history of the US Border for BA students.The presentation started out with border history in terms of legislation, then proceeded to discuss the concept of borderlands as a significant area of study with examples. The third part focused on how the border functions in the US today: what legal/illegal or unauthorized immigration means, what quotas exists, and discussed issues like the Secure Fence Act (2006), the Dream Act, and Arizona state bill 1070.
