The objective of American Studies is to study the culture and society of the United States. The American Studies specialization within the English BA program is both inter- and multidisciplinary, meaning that it combines traditions of classical fields of study (literature, history and linguistics) with the theoretical and methodological approaches of modern cultural history and cultural studies.

A két éves amerikanisztika mesterszintű (MA) képzés során az USA kultúrájának, irodalmának és történelmének magasabb szintű, elmélyültebb tanulmányozására nyílik lehetőség a hallgatók számára. A képzési program egyesíti a klasszikus tudományterületek (irodalom-, történet- és nyelvtudomány) hagyományait a modern művelődéstörténet, film- és kultúratudomány elméleti és módszertani megközelítéseivel, és fontos elemként tartalmazza a vizuális kultúra Amerikai Egyesült Államokra vonatkozó egyes komponenseit. A bevezető jellegű általános képzés mellett nagy hangsúlyt kap a specializálódás lehetősége, melyhez szorosan kapcsolódik az önálló kutatáshoz szükséges készségek elsajátíttatása.
